It was a warm sunny afternoon. Staring out the window, Mara made a suggestion. [Why don’t we go for a walk in the garden today?]
Oh! I can finally go outside?! I’d love to go!
Apparently, today, I have been assigned my own personal knight. From today onwards, they will accompany me wherever I go. I didn’t think a simple rabbit would need such a thing…however, I am a black rabbit, after all.
In other words, there’s a risk I might be stolen to be sold as a rare, discoloured creature, or killed accidentally. Therefore, having a knight in your life is, of course, a good idea. Until now, I’ve remained by the Prince’s side, with his personal guards stepping in to protect me. However, recently, the Prince has been going on many business trips. Apparently some big project is about to be completed. I’m not sure what he’s doing, but he’s not acting like himself. It makes me nervous. Day by day, his eyes looked more and more sad when he finally glanced at me.
Hah…why can’t he just tell me what’s worrying him? Day by day, I grew more lonely and anxious.
Because I didn’t have anyone to guard me, I wasn’t allowed to leave or go outside.
I’m ashamed that I’m so useless. I understand that it’ll be disappointing guarding a mere rabbit, but please do your best and protect me, Mr.Guard!
I heard two sets of footsteps approaching the room, and I waited expectantly. Is my new knight here?
A knock came at the door, followed by a man’s voice. [Excuse me, I’m the Black Holy Beast’s escort, starting day.]
Mara answered the door, letting in the new knight.
They’re here!
[It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Lazulius Imbler, and I will be serving as the Black Holy Beast’s bodyguard from today.]
[My name is Finrich Dantoran, and I will be your guard as well.]
With that, the two men kneel and lower their heads. Woah, so these two are knights! They’re so cool!
Lazulius had long blue hair, gleaming and silky. One side hung lower than the other, cut in a single bang. His eye gleamed the same colour as his hair, his other eye missing. He has just the right amount of muscle tone, and is a handsome knight, with a masculine touch to his beauty.
The other man, Finrich, had long chestnut-colored hair tied in a ponytail and a crisp air. His eyes were a beautiful sky-blue color, the ends sloping gently downwards, giving him a sexy look. He looks slender, but I’m sure he has a knightly body, too.
These two men, who seemed to be popular with women, were my bodyguards! My ears perked up and twitched anxiously, considering the possibility that I might become the target of some female hostility in the future. Curiously, I stare at them with wide eyes.
[Fufu, please raise your heads, both of you. Kuro-sama welcomes both of you.]
[!…Thank you, and I wish you happiness. I’ll protect you with my life.]
[We will not allow suspicious people to approach the Black Holy Beast.]
Oh, are you unexpectedly happy to be here? Both of them seem happy to be a part of my guard. I thought they’d be unwilling to serve me, and we’d be sitting here all awkward, but they’re surprisingly happy. Thank you for your oath to protect me. However, I’d prefer it if you didn’t give your life; instead, I’d rather we live a long life alongside each other.
That’s what I’ll tell them when the translator is ready.
I bowed properly. It was a bow that showed how short my neck was.In response, the knights gave a knight-like nod, and moved into position. The blue haired one took place outside the door, while the chestnut knight took position inside the room.
Then, when Mara told the knight that we were going to visit the garden, he responded: [Then, I will escort you.]
The knight has to have his hands free in case of emergency, so I guess Mara will carry me.
Wow~ It comes with built in cushions (hehe).
[We’ve arrived. Please take your walk as you like.]
Hooray-! Long time no see, outside world!
The garden of the royal palace was well-maintained, and seasonal flowers were artistically arranged and planted in each flowerbed. Winter will be here soon, but it’s still daytime, and I don’t feel the cold with my fur.
Ah! Dragonflies!
A red dragonfly circled around me. I followed it with my eyes and then chased after it.
Wait, dragonfly-dono!
The black rabbit was running around. The guards and Mara watched on with warm eyes. As I was running around, I heard a squeal.
Huh? Come to think of it, it’s been so long since I’ve been outside! I had completely lost my wild intuition and forgot to check my surroundings!
Huh, whew… ……. What about that squeal I heard earlier? I think I heard it come from over there? Thinking that, I laid down, turning my ears toward the cry I heard earlier.
[Oh, she’s stopped moving.]
[The sound of the horse’s neigh must have frightened her. What should we do, Miss?]
[…Shall we go and say hello to the horses?]
Then, Mara calls Kuro-sama and hugs me, picking me up from where I was frozen in place.
I was so scared! Mamma!
As a side note, Mara-san has recently become a mother figure to this black rabbit. I’ve always felt that if I had a mother, she would be like this. I wonder what my real mother must’ve been like…
Well, let’s not talk about that …….
Mara carried me to the direction where I heard the squeal earlier.
What? Why are you going that way? Please don’t! I don’t know if I’ve ever offended Mara-san in any way, but if I did, I’ll apologize, so please forgive me! I’ll apologize, I swear, so please forgive me… I squeaked and beat the cushion repeatedly with my short paws in panic.
And so we arrived. There was a horse in front of me. A decker-y* horse. A white girl. A beautifully maned decker horse with long white eyelashes.

[Please calm down, Kuro-sama! He’s a male, but he’s Your Highness’ horse. He’s a very smart horse, and he’s been trained by His Highness himself.]
[…It is a pleasure to meet the rumored Black Holy Beast-dono. I’m sorry to have startled you. I’m not as savage as this maid says I am.] The white horse spoke.
Haha, that was rude of me. I’m sorry, but I instinctively cower when I meet something bigger than myself.
When I replied, the white horse snorted and said, [That’s fine, it’s just animal instinct, after all.]
[If you’d like, you can touch me if you wish. My coast is wonderful and silky because the stablehand brushes me every morning. Not that it can compare to the Black Holy Beast, of course.]
Oh, I’m sorry it took me so long to tell you my name. I am called Kuro by everyone. Please don’t call me the Black Holy Beast. Will you please tell me your name?
[I’ll call you Kuro-dono, then. My name is Julie.]
We introduced ourselves and put our noses together. In reality, the greeting for rabbits is to sniff each other’s buttocks, but the other person is a horse. So we touched our noses together instead.
I’m looking forward to working with you~!
[Fufu, it seems that the greeting was completed safely. The two of them greeting each other is so cute! Kuro-sama is impeccable.]
[Oh, that dour Julie is offering her mane to Kuro-sama. It’s amazing. She really is the Black Holy Beast, after all!]
I leapt from Mara’s hand and landed on Julie’s soft mane.
It’s… dry and soft. It’s so smooth. It feels like I’m standing on silk. I chittered out loud and rumbling, showing my appreciation of his beautiful mane.
It feels so good.

Thus ended our first walk outside. Mara said she’ll take me out again, and hopefully I’ll get to see Julie. I’d like to sit on his mane again, someday.
